Choosing The Right Color To Paint The Garage

Choosing the right colors to paint your garage

Choosing the right colors to paint your garage, and ultimately your home, will not only make it look great and bring everything together, but it will also impact the price when it comes time to sell your home. You will have to make some hard choices, like deciding whether to go for classic or more modern color options and this alone will have a big impact on your home’s appearance. Even deciding between the saddle tan garage floor and the desert garage floor coatings depend entirely on the color scheme and style that you are ultimately trying to achieve for your home. Try to tie in all the colors of your home and its environment to really highlight the improvements and aesthetic of your home. Aim to create a fun and enjoyable environment that you’ll love to enjoy and that will increase your home’s value. Try to follow our simple recommendations.

  1. The Garage Door is typically one of the first things you notice about a home since the typical 2-car garage makes up roughly 30% of your home’s front façade. Setting a good first impression with the garage door can make all the difference in your home looking like a million bucks or just another cookie cutter house. If you want your home to appear clean and bright a simple white egg-shell color can accomplish this. If you really want the garage door to blend in with the rest of the home choosing a garage door with the same color of the house will help it appear seamless. My personal recommendation is to choose an accenting color to your home and front door, but not the exact same color – think similar shades but darker or lighter. When opting for a more traditional look wood-grain finishes or neutral tones will help to accomplish this look. On the other hand, if your aim is to appear more modern and contemporary think of metallic colors such as gray or aluminum/steel colored doors that will bring out this appearance.

  2. The garage floor will often extend about a foot past the garage door when it’s closed. Choosing the appropriate garage floor coating color and chips can really tie the garage door and exterior of your home together. Or choose a bold bright color and chip combination to really stand out. You can’t really go wrong with the floor unless your house is a very subtle color in a conservative neighborhood, choosing a custom bright pink might be a little much – if you know what I’m saying.

  3. It is also important to keep in mind what attributes your house already has, as well as the overall look of the neighborhood. What will look good with a brick home might not always look good with a stucco or wood home. Or, if your neighborhood is very modern and you’re thinking of a more traditional look it might clash with the rest of the neighborhood.

Keep in mind these general suggestions will also help you choose colors for the rest of your garage renovation experience. Below are our color suggestions that we think go well depending on the look you're going for.

White: Clean and bright

Neutral / Beiges: Traditional and conservative

Black: Sophisticated and bold

Reds / Browns: Depth and richness

Choosing colors for your home and garage should be fun and a reflection of who you are!
